One of the discoveries that Jay Leyda made while working on his book “Films Beget Films” was MISE ÉIRE, a tribute to the Irish independence movement and the failed Easter Uprising of 1916 edited together from newspaper and film archives. Leyda’s admiration for the film also stemmed from the fact that Morrison made the effort to have all the material to run at a unified speed. Morrison describes how he did this in a work report that Leyda included as an appendix to his book. Journalist and Ireland expert Ralf Sotscheck will give an introduction that explores the film's historical context.
The film will be made available as a digitally restored version by the Irish Film Institute. The screening is part of the program Zeitgeist Ireland 24.
